The client requested that Symposit assess the internal network and to modernize it in order to make it more secure, manageable, and of course faster. Since there was no one to properly manage the network, there was no visibility and hence no security within the network. Additionally, the aging network stack was implemented over 5 years ago without any documentation or transference of knowledge.

Solution:

Symposit assessed the network and recommended a total replacement of the primary networking components. The solution was to implement the Ubiquiti Unifi SDN (software-defined networking) platform in order to continuously monitor, maintain, optimize and secure the internal wired and wireless network. The newfound benefits of the technology include:

Faster Speeds: The new equipment is fully 1Gbps capable with fiber capabilities. Additionally Symposit deployed 802.11 AC wireless access-points (WAPs) broadcasting on the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. The WAPs also adjust channel and bands accordingly to avoid interference and balance neighboring access points.

Cloud Management: a single pane dashboard view of all networking components including the health and status of all devices and connected clients, accessible from anywhere via cloud integration.

Traffic Segregation: By implementing VLANs and Guest Networks, traffic is secured as concurrent data streams stay in their own lane.

Modern Security: The primary Ubiquiti gateway router features a modern firewall with intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS) capabilities. It is also capable of Geo-filtering which means blocking entire countries by known IP addresses. Additionally, administrators are notified of any anomalous behaviors on the network.

Reduced Downtime: Symposit deployed an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), protecting all network equipment and providing approximately 30 minutes of power in the event of an electrical outage.
