ALEXANDRIA, VA – Symposit LLC donates to Glasgow Middle School Success Prep Program. The donation was used to fund a field trip so that students in the success prep program could attend University of Mary Washington (UMW).

At UMW, Glasgow students toured the beautiful campus.  They visited a classroom, got to check out a dorm, perused the athletic facilities, stopped in at the student union center and ended their day with lunch in the dining hall!  A student tour guide led them through each stop and answered questions about going to college (How many students are in a class?  Do you have soccer?  What happens if you’re late?  Are the teachers nice?) as they toured.

Bobby Bermudez, President of Symposit, is a firm believer in providing students the opportunities to succeed. “I’m proud that we could contribute to the event, which enables students with the desire to succeed and realize the possibilities that college may someday offer them.”

Success Prep is a new elective course that Glasgow Middle School developed in response to findings in educational research. These findings explain how certain student behaviors and outcomes can indicate — as early as middle school — which students may be at-risk of late or no high school graduation. Success Prep aims to improve educational outcomes for this group of at-risk students by carefully balancing the following areas within an elective class: building a sense of community and self-worth, developing executive functioning Skills, and developing social-emotional skills. Students are also exposed to local colleges and universities, as well as businesses, to get them thinking about what’s next.
